Kettering University, located in Flint, Michigan, USA is busy building a reputation as a leader in co-op programs. This university is unique because of their focus and value on hands-on training. Kettering places their students in companies beginning in their freshman year. They then rotate the students between school and their co-op job, alternating every 3 months, in order to gain necessary practical experience right from the start. This type of practice provides the students with valuable networking opportunities as well as possible employment contacts upon graduation. Of these co-op programs, the engineering co-op programs are ranking the highest. Both the US News and World Report have ranked Kettering University as "the #1 University in the nation for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering" in its annual "America's Best Colleges Guide for 2008". This is actually the 8th year in a row that this University has ranked as the highest in it's category. If you are interested in industrial engineering and are wanting hands-on training, this might be something you would want to investigate.
